Eight-year-old loses arm in pet lion attack in Lahore
Earlier, a tragic incident involving a pet lion was reported in Lahore, where an eight-year-old boy lost his arm after being attacked in the Sabzazar area.
According to police, the incident took place at the Dola Breeding Farm, a private facility located in Sabzazar. The child, identified as Wajid Ali, reportedly wandered close to the lions while playing. Due to unsafe cages and alleged negligence by the owners, one of the lions attacked him and badly injured his arm.
Police sources said the owners attempted to hide the incident and delayed informing authorities. The injured child was rushed to a nearby hospital, where attendants initially told doctors that the injury was caused by an accident involving a machine. However, doctors later discovered the true nature of the wounds.
Due to the severity of the injuries, surgeons were forced to amputate the child’s arm to save his life. He was later shifted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for further treatment and specialised medical care.
Police action and investigation
SP Iqbal Town led the police operation after receiving information through intelligence sources. Officers reached the hospital and traced the incident back to the breeding farm. According to the spokesperson for the DIG Operations, the breeding farm is owned by Umar Iqbal and Ali Iqbal and holds a valid licence issued by the wildlife department.
Despite having a licence, police said the incident occurred due to poor safety arrangements and a lack of proper supervision. Both owners were taken into custody, and a case has been registered against them.
The DIG Operations said putting human lives at risk for business purposes is a serious crime and warned that strict action will be taken against those found violating safety laws.
