Lionel Messi ends 21-year international football career

A 21-year journey comes to an end, Argentina’s globally renowned footballer Lionel Messi made his final international match memorable with a fabulous victory.

In the match played in front of more than 85,000 spectators at Buenos Aires’ Monumental Stadium, Lionel Messi provided an assist for Nicolás Otamendi first and then for Nico Paz’s goal, and in the 71st minute scored himself from the penalty spot to make the score 0-3. This was his 126th international goal for Argentina.

The 39-year-old footballer ended his 21-year international football career for Argentina with this match. He bid farewell as the player who had played 208 matches for the national team, held the record for the most caps, and was the record goal scorer.

Lionel Messi appeared emotional several times before and during the final match of his international football career. The star footballer’s eyes filled with tears during the national anthem.

A special message was displayed in Lionel Messi’s honour at the stadium, along with his jersey number 10. Not only that, but in the 10th minute of the match, play was stopped in honour of the star footballer’s jersey number 10, and the spectators applauded for one minute.

At the end of the match, a drone show was held to pay tribute to Lionel Messi.
