A local holiday announced for April 1 will be observed in the Sahiwal district on the eve of the Urs of Hazrat Baba Muhammad Pannah.

The holiday was announced by Capt (R) Sami Ullah Farooq, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sahiwal.

According to him, it will be a local holiday for the Sahiwal district only.

It is pertinent to mention that exams, scheduled for April 1, will not be postponed due to the local holiday.

The holiday notification has been circulated to relevant government offices and departments for implementation.

Holiday announced on March 28

In another development, March 28 was observed as a public holiday due to the annual Mela Chiraghan festival.

The decision was taken to facilitate citizens participating in the cultural and religious festivities of Mela Chiraghan.

Mela Chiraghan observes a local holiday every year. 

Every year, a large number of devotees visit the shrine of Madholal Hussain. They offer prayers and take part in rituals. The devotes lighted candles for fulfillment of their prayers and wishes. They also distributed charity food and set up milk and sharbat sabeel. They also laid floral wreaths and chaddar at the graves of Shah Hussain and Madho Lal Hussain.

The Auqaf and Religious Affairs Department also organises a Mehfil-e-Samma and musical gatherings during the urs.
