Locals capture a steppe eagle with GPS tracker

The locals of Muzaffarabad have captured a steppe eagle with a GPS tracker on it in the mountains of Pir Chinasi. According to the details, the solar-powered GPC tracking device was installed on the eagle.

In the viral video of the captured eagle, it can be seen that a wing tag written F49 was also installed. According to the report, this eagle was not a usual hunting bird, but it’s a steppe eagle. This type of eagle is usually used for scientific experiences.

The tag and a GPS tracker installed on the back of the eagle were basically used for a migration tracking program or the Raptor Conservation Project.

The experts also confirmed that through these programs, the migration, habitat and survival instincts of the birds can be monitored.

The GPS system on the back of the eagle helped to track the route of the bird.

Codes like “F49” are internationally used in eagle, vulture, and falcon monitoring projects to identify and track birds. Experts believe the bird could be a migratory raptor linked to a research programme in Central Asia or the Gulf region.

The solar-powered GPS device attached to it may be helping researchers monitor its migration routes, movement patterns, and survival across different countries.
