Web desk: The annual ten-day Lok Mela festival began in Islamabad on Friday. Celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Pakistan under the theme “Yakjehti k Rang, Lok Virsa k Sang.” This translates to “The Colours of Unity, Alongside Lok Virsa.”
The festival was organised by the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) under the National Heritage and Culture Division. The festival is expected to continue until November 17.
It features distinctive pavilions representing Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the country’s many regional identities.
Lok Mela 2025
Lok Mela 2025 offers visitors a vibrant journey through Pakistan’s diverse traditions, crafts, music, and cuisine.
The festival features live folk music, traditional dance performances, handicraft demonstrations, and culinary stalls showcasing regional specialities.
Artisans and cultural enthusiasts from across the country and the world are participating to celebrate the nation’s rich artistic and cultural legacy.
This year’s edition also revives traditional attractions such as Folk Theatre and Putli Tamasha, which means puppet shows. Alongside this, performances by renowned Sufi and folk musicians.
Visitors can enjoy traditional delicacies, including Balochi Sajji and special teas from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as they take their time exploring handicrafts such as pottery, leatherwork, and stone carving.
This is not all, the festival will also host an international pavilion with delegates from 12 countries. This highlights the world’s interest in Pakistan’s cultural heritage. The event has become a key symbol of the federation’s recognition and celebration of the country’s rich cultural diversity.
