The LPG crisis in Karachi is expected to ease following a significant development, as the supply of LPG tankers from the Pakistan-Iran border has been restored.
More than 200 LPG bowser tankers are expected to be cleared at the Gabd-Rimdan border today. Their clearance could bring approximately 3,000 to 4,000 tonnes of LPG into the local market.
With the increase in LPG supply, prices are expected to drop by Rs50 to Rs70 per kilogram, providing significant relief to consumers.
Two LPG vessels arrived in Pakistan on the previous day, while the supply of LPG through bowser tankers from Iran has now also resumed.
Sources said the arrival of ships and Iranian LPG tankers is expected to improve supply across the country. Increased availability of gas is likely to provide relief to consumers and bring down market prices.
The Pakistan-Iran Gabd-Rimdan border has also reopened, and the clearance process for LPG bowser tankers that had been stranded there has begun. The development is expected to ease the gas shortage, while the restoration of imported supplies is likely to improve market conditions.
Meanwhile, the LPG-mix vessel PGC Yanius has arrived at the SSGC terminal, with cargo handling underway at Port Qasim. A vessel carrying 4,520 metric tonnes of LPG has berthed at the port.
According to a Port Qasim spokesperson, another vessel carrying 3,083 metric tonnes of LPG has completed the transfer of its cargo and departed from Port Qasim.
