Lucky Motor Corporation (LMC) has entered into an exclusive partnership with Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC Group), marking its move towards electric vehicles in Pakistan.

Under the agreement, GAC’s new energy vehicle (NEV) brands, AION and HYPTEC, will be introduced to the local market.

Focus on battery technology

A key part of the partnership is the introduction of GAC’s battery systems.

This includes the “Magazine Battery 2.0” platform, which is designed to meet high safety standards, including resistance to fire under stress conditions.

The company is also working on solid-state batteries aimed at improving energy efficiency and driving range.

Plans for local production and infrastructure

The agreement is expected to expand LMC’s existing portfolio, which already includes Kia and Peugeot.

Officials say the partnership could support the development of electric vehicle infrastructure in Pakistan.

Plans include setting up battery-swapping stations and using LMC’s current manufacturing facilities for local assembly and parts production.

There are also expectations of technology transfer, particularly in areas such as battery management and driver assistance systems.

GAC enters market

GAC Group is a state-owned Chinese carmaker with a strong presence in the global automotive sector.

It has long-standing joint ventures with Toyota and Honda in China.

Its operations cover the full production chain, including battery materials, manufacturing, and recycling.

In China, its AION and HYPTEC brands have ranked among the top-selling electric vehicle names in recent years.

Details to be announced

LMC said further details, including vehicle models, pricing and dealership plans, will be shared in the coming weeks.

For now, the company says it is focusing on integrating GAC’s technology into its operations as part of a broader shift towards electric mobility.
