Islamabad: The Anti-Terrorism Court has granted 14-day physical remand of the accused arrested on charges of assaulting Islamabad traffic police personnel.
The accused was produced before the court of ATC Islamabad Judge Abu Al-Hasanat Muhammad Zulqarnain, where the police requested for 30-day physical remand for investigation.
After hearing the arguments, the court partially accepted the police’s request and ordered the accused to be handed over to the police on 14-day physical remand.
The incident took place over the weekend in Sector I-8 of Islamabad, where traffic police personnel stopped a vehicle for violating traffic rules. According to the officials, the person riding in the vehicle not only misbehaved but also assaulted the officiers.
The driver who was in an intoxicated state, came out of his car, pushed and slapped the officer, issued death threats and used used abusive language.
After the video of the incident went viral on social media, the police took action and arrested the accused.
According to the Islamabad Police spokesperson, a case has been registered against the accused under the provisions of terrorism, violence and obstruction of official duties.
Police say that other people involved in the incident are being identified during further investigation.
Citizens have condemned the incident of violence against police officers and demanded that the government ensure the rule of law and make an example of those responsible for such incidents.
