‘Marathon’ game set for its release: all details

Marathon game release

Bungie has confirmed that Marathon, its revived science-fiction shooter franchise, will be released on 5 March 2026. The game will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with full cross-play and cross-save support across platforms.

Shooter-built game

Marathon is a first-person shooter built around Player versus Player versus Environment (PvPvE) gameplay, where players face both computer-controlled enemies and other teams online. Players take on the role of “Runners”, operating in squads of three and dropping into hostile zones to collect loot and survive.

Following feedback from early tests, Bungie added features such as proximity voice chat and an option to queue solo. The studio said these changes were designed to improve how players communicate and how flexible the game feels.

According to PlayStation, the game includes progression systems such as weapons, upgrades, Runner shells and implants. One of the game’s key end-game locations, the Cryo Archive, will be unlocked during the first season.

Editions and pre-order

The Standard Edition includes access to all gameplay updates released over time, including maps, events and new Runner shells. Players who pre-order will receive cosmetic items for Marathon and bonus rewards for Destiny 2 linked to their Bungie account.

The Deluxe Edition adds cosmetic weapon and Runner shell items, along with in-game currency and a premium rewards pass.

Bungie has also revealed a Collector’s Edition, which includes physical gaming accessories such as a Runner Shell statue, artwork and digital bonuses.

Controller and localisation

Sony will release a limited-edition Marathon DualSense controller inspired by the game’s visual style. Bungie said the design was created to feel practical and believable within the game’s world.

The studio has also confirmed fully localised dialogue for all supported languages, with voice cast details to be shared later.
