Maryam Nawaz responds to Chaudhry Salik’s corruption allegations

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday warned that she would take legal action against anyone making corruption allegations against her government without providing evidence.

“If you cannot prove corruption, I will drag you to court,” Maryam Nawaz said, responding to criticism of her administration during the CM Honhaar Scholarships and Laptop Distribution ceremony for students of Rawalpindi Division at COMSATS University Attock.

Her remarks came after Chaudhry Salik Hussain took a swipe at the Punjab government, alleging that political considerations were influencing development priorities and the allocation of public funds.

Salik claimed that he regularly heard complaints of corruption in Punjab and alleged that a disproportionate share of the province’s development budget was being spent in Lahore, while districts such as Gujrat were being sidelined because government-backed candidates had lost elections there.

He also questioned government spending on official aircraft, arguing that public representatives should remain mindful of the country’s economic difficulties. He called for officials using government aircraft to demonstrate the tangible outcomes and public benefits of their trips.

The federal minister further called for greater accountability, saying that federal and provincial ministers should be empowered to perform their duties while also being held answerable for their performance.
