Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has outlined her government’s technology vision for the province, to improve artificial intelligence, digital skills and modern education that would play a major role in Punjab’s future.
Maryam Nawaz at the China International Big Data Industry Expo 2026 said creating better education and employment opportunities for young people was among her government’s main priorities.
She said Punjab’s youth had the talent and potential to compete in the global technology market. The provincial government, therefore, wants young people with skills that can help them benefit from new opportunities in the digital economy.
Punjab aims to become a technology hub
Maryam Nawaz said big data was changing economies around the world. It had also become an important tool for planning and sustainable development.
She said the Punjab government was taking steps to develop a strong digital economy. It also wanted to turn the province into a hub for artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
The government was working to create a business friendly environment to encourage more investment in the technology sector.
In addition, Maryam Nawaz highlighted that greater use of technology in government departments could improve transparency.
Technological benefits
Maryam Nawaz said the benefits of technology were not limited to economic development.
She explained that data technologies could also help authorities monitor environmental conditions and support efforts to tackle smog and other environmental challenges.
Technology and big data could provide authorities with useful information to understand changing environmental conditions and make better decisions.
Moreover, Maryam Nawaz also spoke about the strong relationship between Pakistan and China.
She described ties between the two countries as being based on mutual trust and cooperation.
