Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood has given a record-breaking performance in domestic cricket on Sunday. He scripted history by scoring the fastest double century ever in the history of Pakistan in the first class of cricket.
Masood made the mark in just 177 balls. He was playing for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited or SNGPL against Sahir Associates. The match was the first match of Round One of the President’s Trophy Grade-I 2025-26. The game took place in the National Bank Sports Complex.
With this innings, Masood went past a longstanding national record. The previous highest score belonged to Inzamam-ul-Haq, who had scored a double century in 188 balls during a tour match against Oxford and Cambridge University in 1992.
Masood’s knock also became the quickest first-class double as he had ever scored on Pakistani soil. He breached Virender Sehwag’s 182 ball effort which was in the Lahore Test in 2006.
By day one Masood was still undefeated on 212 runs. He faced 185 deliveries. In his innings he scored 18 boundaries and two sixes. The effort put SNGPL in a commanding position.
SNGPL had a good beginning after deciding to bat first. Openers Azan Awais and Ali Zaryab assembled 53 runs. Azan had scored 26 runs out of 68 balls and clocked four fours before Bilawal sent him to the wicket.
Masood then would join Ali Zaryab at the crease. The pair made an aggressive counterattack. To that end, they dominated the bowling and turned the tide rapidly.
Their partnership was terminated when Mohammad Hasnain sacked Zaryab. He missed getting a double century by only one short. Zaryab collected 192 runs and 237 balls. There were 27 fours and four sixes in his innings.
At stumps, SNGPL were all out for 460 for 2 in 82.1 overs. Omair Bin Yousuf was still unbeaten on five. The match was really turned in SNGPL’s favour.
