A large-scale joint operation by Sindh and Punjab police against dangerous dacoits is underway across four districts as these districts considered a stronghold of dacoits.  

According to media reports, operation in the Ronti Katcha area has led to the rescue of two more hostages, Sultan and Muhammad Bashir, who had been held captive for several months. With these latest recoveries, more than a dozen hostages have been freed during the operation.

A police official stated that peace is gradually returning to the riverine and slum areas after nearly 24 years, as sustained action by law enforcement agencies begins to show results. Modern technology, including drone surveillance, is being extensively used, while residents have demanded continued state monitoring to completely eliminate criminal elements. ‘Four notorious dacoits were killed, and eight hostages belonging to Punjab were rescued’ he added.

Several high-profile criminals have also laid down their arms. Notorious gang leaders Wahab Lond and Meera Lathani, each carrying head money exceeding one crore rupees, have surrendered along with members of the Lond, Kosh, Lathani and Sikhani gangs.

In Rajanpur, multiple dacoits were killed during encounters, while several others sustained injuries. Police confirmed that 54 dacoits have surrendered in the district so far.

Meanwhile, in Rahim Yar Khan, the police have tightened the noose around criminal gangs. District Police Officer (DPO) said that eight more dangerous robbers were arrested during the operation. Around 1,700 police personnel, eight drone teams and armoured vehicles are taking part. Authorities reported that 62 dacoits have surrendered in the area, while more than 50 facilitators have also been arrested.

RPO Bahawalpur Ghaiz Salahuddin stated that the writ of the state would be firmly established in the no-go areas of Katcha. He confirmed that a joint Sindh–Punjab operation is ongoing, with modern technology playing a key role. So far, 60 criminals have surrendered and three have been killed in encounters.
