Matt Henry achieves career milestone with No 1 ICC test ranking

New Zealand pace spearhead Matt Henry has etched his name into the record books by rising to the No 1 spot in the ICC Test bowling rankings, becoming the first New Zealander in 36 years to achieve the milestone.

The 33-year-old seamer is only the third player from New Zealand to reach the summit of the ICC Test bowlers’ rankings, marking a historic moment for New Zealand cricket.

The right-arm pacer produced a remarkable performance in the Oval Test against the England cricket team, taking a total of 11 wickets in the match, including five wickets in the first innings and six in the second.

His outstanding bowling helped New Zealand secure a 253-run victory and level the series.

Following this performance, Henry climbed six places in the rankings to claim the No. 1 spot with 870 rating points, drawing level with Jasprit Bumrah.

Meanwhile, experienced England batter Joe Root has regained the top position in the ICC Test batting rankings. Root overtook Harry Brook and Travis Head after scoring 46 and 77 runs in the match.

On the other hand, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the latest player rankings for Tests, One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and T20Is.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have each dropped one place in the Test batting rankings. Rizwan is now 19th, while Babar Azam has moved down to 20th. England’s Joe Root has climbed to the top position in the Test batting rankings.

In the Test bowling rankings, Nauman Ali has also dropped one place, moving from sixth to seventh. New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry has become the world’s number one Test bowler, becoming only the third New Zealand player to achieve this ranking in 36 years.

In the ODI batting rankings, Babar Azam remains in sixth place, while New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell continues to hold the top position as the world’s number one ODI batter. In the ODI bowling rankings, Abrar Ahmed holds second place and Shaheen Shah Afridi remains eighth.
