Former PTI MPA Junaid Afzal Sahi Surrenders in May 9 Cases

Web desk: Junaid Afzal Sahi, former MPA of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been convicted in the May 9 cases. The MPA has surrendered.

Former PTI MPA, Junaid Afzal Sahi, appeared in front of the Lahore High Court for bail, where the court ordered him to surrender at the relevant Police station.

Afterwards, Junaid Sahi appeared before the Civil Lines Police station and surrendered.

Junaid Sahi was sentenced to three years in prison in the May 9 Cases. He was elected as a member of the provincial assembly from PP-98.

As the constituency fell vacant after the conviction, by-elections will be held in PP-98 on November 23.

At least 10 people died and hundreds of people sustained injuries on May 9. Additionally, approximately 40 buildings and military installations were damaged, including the Lahore Corps Commander’s House (Jinnah House) and Askari Tower in Lahore, General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Office in Faisalabad, FC Fort in Chakdara, Radio Pakistan building in Peshawar, Toll Plaza at Swat Motorway and the Mianwali Air Base, reports Dawn in a special report.

In total, 62 incidents of violence were recorded. These outbreaks caused a loss of Rs 2.5 billion to the country. According to the state, out of these losses, Rs 1.98 billion was suffered by the army.

“Nothing is hidden about May 9. The public, the army, and we all have irrefutable evidence,” Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) director general, Maj Gen Ahmed Sharif, said two days before the first anniversary of the May 9 riots.

“All of us saw this incident unfolding, we all saw how everyone was [brainwashed] against the army, its leadership, agencies and institutions through lies and propaganda,” he had added further.

He added that certain political leaders had directed their supporters on May 9 to specifically target military installations.

Meanwhile, PTI has called for a judicial inquiry to identify the “real culprits” behind the May 9 incidents, as party founder Imran Khan remains in jail.
