Web desk: Minister of State for the Interior of Pakistan, Talal Chaudhry, and Inspector General (IG) Islamabad held a joint Media Talk on SP Adeel Akbar following his tragic death, stating that any final conclusion or confirmation will be made only after the verification of facts and completion of the inquiry.
Speaking to the media, Talal Chaudhry said, “After verifying the facts, only then will we issue any conclusive statement.”

Talking about the incident, he said, “The Commissioner and I were in a meeting when the IG Islamabad informed the Interior Minister about the incident. The Minister immediately directed us to proceed to the site.”
Expressing deep sorrow, Chaudhry added, “We cannot reduce the pain of the family, but we stand with them in this difficult time.”
Talal also revealed that he has talked to the deceased’s brother, “I have also spoken to his brother,” he said.
He further added, “Once the IG Islamabad completes the inquiry, we will be able to share a final opinion.”
During the briefing, IG Islamabad shared initial findings of the incident.
He said, “The incident took place around 4:30 PM. SP Adeel was returning to his office from Constitution Avenue when a gunshot was fired inside his vehicle near a bridge.”
He further stated that it was too early to confirm whether the gunshot was triggered by a phone call or any other event.
“The incident occurred inside the vehicle. We have retrieved Safe City CCTV footage, and no external factor has been observed so far,” the IG noted.
The IG confirmed that the deceased officer’s younger brother, a PMS officer, is on his way to Islamabad.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have assured a transparent probe into the matter.
He further said that the Islamabad Police is in touch with Adeel Akbar’s family and his associates. Before being posted in Islamabad, he was posted in Balochistan, and his posting in Islamabad was made two months ago.
SP Islamabad Adil Akbar Shoots Himself
Earlier on Thursday, Superintendent of Police (SP) Islamabad, Adil Akbar, reportedly shot himself and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
According to police sources, SP Adil Akbar received a phone call on his mobile moments before the incident.
After the call, he allegedly took his operator’s gun and shot himself. The operator has since been taken into custody for questioning.
Funeral Prayers of SP Adeel Akbar Offered at Police Lines
The funeral prayers of SP Adeel Akbar were offered at Police Lines.
The funeral was attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, senior police officials, members of law enforcement agencies, and a large number of civilians.
Following the prayers, the body was sent to his native village with full official honours.
