Lionel Messi delivered a stellar performance as Inter Miami defeated FC Cincinnati 4-0 on Sunday. The victory secured Miami’s spot in the Eastern Conference final for the first time in the club’s history.
Messi scored one goal and provided three assists in the dominant win. His goal in the 19th minute ended a three-match scoreless streak against Cincinnati. The World Cup winner now has 12 goal contributions in the MLS playoffs, including six goals and six assists.
Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano praised the team’s effort. “The players played a virtually perfect match,” he said. “It wasn’t about holding back; it was about being ourselves.”
Cincinnati, which had the second-best record in MLS this season, struggled to contain Miami’s attack. Head coach Pat Noonan admitted, “We gave too much time to Messi. Miami was better tonight.”
Mateo Silvetti doubled Miami’s lead early in the second half with a precise shot past Cincinnati’s goalkeeper. Silvetti, who replaced Luis Suarez in the lineup, expressed his joy after scoring. “It’s an honor to score my first goal for this team,” he said.
Messi continued to dominate, setting up Tadeo Allende for Miami’s third goal in the 62nd minute. Allende added another in the 74th minute, sealing the 4-0 victory.
Cincinnati had limited chances, with their best opportunity coming in the first half when Evander missed a header. Miami, on the other hand, looked confident, registering seven shots on target compared to Cincinnati’s four.
Inter Miami will now host New York City FC in the Eastern Conference final on Saturday. The winner will advance to the MLS Cup, scheduled for December 6.
Messi’s impact has been undeniable since joining Inter Miami. His leadership and skill have transformed the team into serious contenders for the title.
While Messi led Inter Miami to a 4-0 victory over FC Cincinnati, another football superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, faces a possible World Cup ban, making headlines worldwide.
