ISLAMABAD: Rain and snowfall in the mountainous areas have been predicted in the upper and central regions of the country from tomorrow (November 4) bringing an end to the dry spell.
According to the Meteorological Department, a new wave of westerly winds will enter the upper regions of the country from tonight and will persist until November 5.
The Meteorological Department says that during this time, rain with strong winds and thunderstorms is likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Abbottabad and Haripur, while snowfall is expected in the higher areas.
Similarly, rain and snowfall are also expected in Swabi, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Kashmir and Muzaffarabad.
Rain has also been predicted in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum and Sargodha, while thundershowers are expected in Lahore, Khushab, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Narowal.
According to experts from the Meteorological Department, there has been no rain in most parts of the country since last month, due to which smog has intensified in the plains of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Air Quality Index has increased to dangerous levels, especially in Lahore, Faisalabad and Gujranwala.
Fresh rains can significantly reduce the intensity of smog and air quality is expected to improve, according to the met office.
The Meteorological Department has also said that after this series of rains, the temperature is expected to drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.
Cold will increase in the hilly areas and snowfall in some places may bring the temperature below freezing point.
Meteorological experts have advised citizens to be careful during the rain spell, while farmers have been instructed to take advance measures to protect crops.
