Milk sellers have increased prices in local markets after the recent rise in fuel prices in Pakistan, according to the reports on Wednesday. The price of milk has gone up by Rs30 per litre, making the new price Rs250 per litre.
The price of yoghurt has also increased by Rs40 per kilogram. It now costs Rs280 instead of Rs240.
The Gujjar Milk Sellers Union and the Fresh Milk Union announced the new prices together, according to the reports. They said the increase was necessary because production costs have become much higher.
According to the unions, the prices of animals, fodder, and feed have increased a lot in the past some years. They said that the fodder and feed prices have gone up by nearly 700 per cent.
They also said the price of a buffalo has increased from around Rs450,000 to Rs1.5 million in the last three years. Because of these rising costs, they said they had no choice but to raise milk prices.
However, the district administration rejected the increase. Officials said the government-approved prices of milk and yoghurt have not changed.
Ghee, cooking oil prices in Pakistan
Meanwhile, the prices of ghee and cooking oil have also increased. After a recent increase of Rs3 per kilogram, ghee now costs Rs598 per kg. In addition to this, cooking oil is being sold at Rs618 per kg.
Last week, the price of a 10 kg flour bag also increased by Rs10 to Rs20. Rice prices are also high in many markets.
Earlier, last week, the price of a 10 kg bag of flour was increased by Rs 10 to Rs 20. Now the price of flour is Rs 200 per kg.
Similarly, the good quality rice in the market is expensive too, as the middle-class citizens are unable to afford to buy rice.
