The aware and dignified people of Kashmir have rejected the strike call given by the Awami Action Committee and expressed their resolve to promote positive and healthy activities. On October 4, the Awami Action Committee had called for an indefinite strike and closure of business activities. However, contrary to this, preparations are underway in Mirpur for the Kashmir Premier League (KPL)-organised Football Tournament 2026.

In this regard, a special ceremony and press conference were held, which were attended by personalities belonging to various political and social circles.

The football tournament, organised by the Kashmir Premier League, will be held in Mirpur on October 8, 9 and 10, with teams from Ladakh, Srinagar, Jammu, Poonch, Mirpur and Muzaffarabad participating.

Addressing the press conference, Vice Chancellor of Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST), Professor Dr Anwar Khattab, said that sports play an important role not only in the physical health of young people but also in character building. Through sports, discipline, tolerance, teamwork and leadership skills are developed among young people, while opportunities for healthy activities help provide the younger generation with a positive direction.

He said that organising a football tournament through the platform of the Kashmir Premier League would provide young people with opportunities to showcase their abilities, while also playing an important role in promoting love, brotherhood and mutual relations among people from different areas.

Professor Dr Anwar Khattab said that Mirpur is a beautiful city and a land of hospitable people, where the organisation of major sporting events can become a means of promoting social and economic activities. The arrival of players, officials and spectators from different areas would promote business activities in hotels, transportation, markets, restaurants and other sectors.

He further said that the connections established between people from different cities and regions through sports could create new opportunities for educational, cultural, social and commercial cooperation in the future.
