Former captain of Pakistan and the current Pakistan Super League (PSL) batting coach of Peshawar Zalmi, Misbah-ul-Haq has sent a defamation notice to the former player Ahmed Shehzad.
According to sources that are acquainted with the matter, the claims have been rejected by Misbah, who declared them baseless and degrading to his professional reputation.
The legal notice is said to call for a public retraction and a clarification by Shehzad on his statements.
It also warns of further legal action if the demands are not met within a certain time limit.
Shehzad’s legal team is expected to respond in the following days, as both sides brace themselves for what could potentially turn into a legal battle.
The controversy has emerged from allegations made by Shehzad in which he accused Misbah of not paying the dues of the cricketer Haseebullah Khan.
The matter has since attracted attention in the cricketing circles and according to reports, the issue is under legal review.
Lawyers representing both parties are said to be in consultation and looking at the claims and the possible legal implications of it before going any further.
This is not the first time the tension between Shehzad and Misbah has occurred.
Earlier in the month, Shehzad had been vocal in his criticism of Misbah, accusing him of having an “ego” and playing a role in Haseebullah’s exclusion from the national squad.
As the situation is yet to unfold, more developments are expected to come depending on Shehzad’s response to the notice.
The dispute has introduced a new layer of controversy to Pakistan’s cricket scenario with the public and the media paying a lot of attention to it.
