Misuse of article 19 can put diplomatic ties at risk: Tarar

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has said that Article 19 guarantees freedom of expression but warned that irresponsible commentary is not permitted under the Constitution.

He expressed these views while addressing a joint press conference along with Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry here on Tuesday.

He urged citizens and commentators to exercise caution while expressing opinions particularly on sensitive international matters.

Law Minister Nazir Tarar said that we have long-standing relations with countries in the region and making comments that whose side is Pakistan on is like adding oil to the fire.

He urged citizens and commentators to exercise caution while expressing opinions particularly on sensitive international matters.

It is a national duty to prioritise Pakistan’s survival and interests in a sensitive situation.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar addressing the presser said the government’s policy has remained fair. Excess occurs when red lines are crossed. He urged citizens to trust the state. He added that Pakistan is playing an active role in the Iran–United States conflict.

Addressing a press conference with Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, the information minister said the conflict spread to other countries after attacks on Iran. He said the entire world is concerned over the situation.

He said since the conflict began, Pakistan has tried to push for a diplomatic solution. Pakistan was among the first to condemn the unjustified attacks on Iran. The prime minister and the foreign ministry also issued statements after the martyrdom of Iran’s supreme leader.

He added that attacks on friendly Gulf countries were viewed with the same concern. Pakistan is a responsible nuclear state, he said, but unnecessary remarks are creating confusion.

Tarar said the prime minister remains in contact with world leaders. Pakistan is trying to help brotherly countries resolve their issues. He said the region is passing through a difficult period and the situation should be viewed positively.

He stressed that efforts must continue to reduce tensions in the region.
