PM Modi faces backlash after his name surfaces in Epstein files

Indian citizens are demanding an explanation after the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name appeared in the infamous Epstein files linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The latest batch of Epstein files was released by the US Department of Justice. The documents reveal details about the lifestyles of some of the world’s richest and most famous people.

Hundreds of names connected to Epstein have surfaced in the new materials. US President Donald Trump’s name also appears in the files. However, he said that the documents cleared him of any wrongdoing.

The new pages began to be released on Friday and will take weeks to examine fully.

Many netizens have urged Indian PM Modi to respond.

One wrote that as Prime Minister, he should clarify. The user said, ‘After bringing in the UGC, a question mark has already been raised on your Hindutva-like ideology; as Prime Minister, you should respond.’

Rahul Gandhi tweeted that PM Modi is compromised.

India’s opposition Congress party also demanded an explanation.

Party leader Pawan Khera said an email in the files mentioned Modi had taken advice from Epstein before his 2017 Israel visit.

The email reportedly stated that Modi had “danced and sang… for the benefit of the US president,” ending with “IT WORKED!”

Khera called the allegation a matter of national shame. He said it raised questions about Modi’s judgment, transparency, and diplomatic propriety.

On social media platform X, Khera said the files suggested an “unexplained association” between Modi and Epstein.

He also said that the prime minister should clarify what advice was sought, what was meant by acting “for the benefit of the US president,” and the meaning of “IT WORKED!”

Khera added that the email was written days after Modi’s Israel trip from July 4 to 6, 2017.

He also said Modi met then US President Donald Trump shortly before the trip.

Epstein died by suicide in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges.

His name has appeared in multiple documents and court filings in recent years. Being mentioned in the records does not prove wrongdoing.
