Senior journalist Mohammad Malick has questioned the Prime Minister’s (PM) Office’s role and the government’s priorities after the deadly PIMS Hospital fire in his social media post on Friday.
Taking to the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Mohammad Malick questioned the unbridled power of bureaucracy in Pakistan.
“While the nation mourns the killing of 14 infants by incompetent bureaucrats, the Prime Minister’s office’s priority is to protect his former PSO and present secretary MOIP capt(retd) Said Anjum,” he said.
Mentioning that they called a hurried meeting at 5 PM today to sack the Ceo of EDB. Who, according to him, ‘was resisting the secretary’s pressure to obey him and agree to a flawed auto policy, which is nakedly being manipulated to serve vested interests.’
“We are talking about a business interest running into millions of dollars every year,” Malick added.
He further added that ‘clearly the Prime Minister is either unable to say no to two of his two top bureaucratic aides in his own office-who are supporting this travesty of justice- or he simply doesn’t care.’
“We are told by Def Minister Kh Asif that there is a hybrid system working here, so perhaps it’s time for the Field Marshal to step in,” the senior journalist stated.
“After all, one of how uniformed chaps is creating a mess, so what if he took off the uniform for the greener and more lucrative pastures of bureaucracy,” he further added.
PIMS Hospital fire
14 newborn babies lost their lives after a fire broke out in the nursery of the Mother and Child Hospital (MCH) at the PIMS early Wednesday.
According to PIMS officials, the nursery housed newborn babies who were either in incubators or receiving oxygen when the fire erupted at around 6:45 AM.
According to the reports, 15 babies were present in the ward, out of which one was saved by her maternal aunt.
Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif also summoned an emergency meeting in Islamabad following the tragic fire at the nursery of PIMS.
Officials from the Ministry of Health, PIMS administration, district administration, police, fire brigade and other relevant institutions have been called to attend the meeting
