Mohsin Naqvi says KP govt protecting illegal Afghans

LAHORE: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is providing protection to illegal Afghan immigrants amid country-wide crackdown.

Naqvi linked recent attacks to Afghan nationals and cited incidents in Islamabad and the FC Headquarters. He said Afghans were involved in several security breaches. Furthermore, he insisted the government knows who is driving terrorism. He urged the Afghan Taliban to restrain militants operating from their soil.

The minister said the nationwide deportation of illegal Afghan migrants is progressing. He noted that authorities are dismantling Afghan camps in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Moreover, he warned that returning illegally after deportation will result in arrest and punishment. He requested migrants to go back with dignity before facing strict action.

Naqvi also announced a crackdown on fake news on social media. He claimed that most online news is false. Additionally, he said no one will be allowed to humiliate others or threaten national security. He emphasized that people making allegations from abroad will face strict accountability.

He added that TV channels already operate under regulations and face fines for incorrect reporting. Therefore, similar action will be taken against digital misinformation. Naqvi concluded that freedom of expression cannot include falsehoods.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Terrorists behind the suicide attack on the headquarters of Federal Constabulary (FC) in Peshawar’s Saddar area was identified as Afghan nationals.

FC headquarters in Peshawar’s Saddar area along Kohat Road came under attack, leaving three personnel martyred and 10 others, including three FC personnel, injured.

According to security sources, all three terrorists behind the attack were shot dead. Heavy ammunition and explosives were also recovered from the terrorists.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar Mian Saeed said that three suicide bombers tried to enter the FC headquarters. “One attacker detonated himself at the main gate of the FC Headquarters, while two others managed to enter the premises,” he said.
