ISLAMABAD: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) put out an emergency travel alert, stating that due to heavy fog, Motorway M-11 and M-4 will remain closed.
M-11(Lahore – Sialkot) and M-4 (Gojra – Abdul Hakim interchange) will remain bolted for commuters.
Thick fog caused a major inconvenience in traveling in several parts of Pakistan. Large roads, such as parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, were obscured by fog.
This change of weather made the weather very low in visibility for drivers. As a result, the risk of accidents grew tremendously on the highways.
The NHMP closed some of the motorways temporarily to promote people’s safety. This would protect commuters against dangerous conditions.
Experts highly recommend that travellers not make unnecessary night trips. They suggested that they should finish journeys between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Drivers should observe high safety standards during the fog season.
There is a need to use fog lights among drivers. They should make sure that the wipers in vehicles are in good condition.
Most importantly, drivers should keep a distance between vehicles at a higher rate. The NHMP is very keen on discouraging the use of high-beam headlights.
High beams also make visibility low since they reflect light.
The Motorway Police are constantly on high alert. The teams are doing everything within their power to save lives and property.
Thus, NHMP encouraged people to collaborate with officers. They promoted inspection of the existing road conditions prior to traveling.
To stay in touch with the progress of the commuters, they can call the NHMP helpline 130.
This warning is meant to guarantee good and efficient movement nationwide.
