Major Motorways shuts down due to Fog

ISLAMABAD: Dense Fog once again has led to the closure of Major motorways in areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The heavy weather crippled the usual way of life significantly during the night. The visibility was very low, which caused great disturbances in motorway traffic.

The M1 motorway was closed by the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) in both directions all the way to Rashakai.

Section M2, which links Lahore and Hiran Minar, also collapsed. Moreover, law enforcement authorities shut the M3 between Faizpur and Rajana.

Drivers were not able to make use of the M5 between Multan and the Zahir Pir region. The M11 between Sialkot and Lahore, which connects the two major cities, also got into the list of closures.

Public Safety Comes First

The closure of the roads was due to the security considerations of the people. The visibility was greatly decreased to levels that were not considered safe to operate in.

Motorway Police greatly encouraged all the drivers to use the Grand Trunk (GT) Road as their alternative. Drivers should always drive at a slow and careful pace, the officials said.

They need to turn on their fog lights in order to have better visibility on the road. The Police strengthened their security measures for everyone on the road.

In the meantime, the Police asked the public to remain at home until the weather clears. They advised them to avoid any unnecessary travel in the risky weather.
