Heavy fog blanketed plain areas of Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the night between Thursday and Friday, forcing authorities to close several motorway sections after visibility dropped sharply, the private media channel reported.
A Motorway Police spokesperson said officials closed Motorway M1 from Swabi to Burhan, M2 from Islamabad to Lilla, M4 from Shershah to Shamkot, M5 from Shershah to Rohri, and M14 from Fateh Jang to Kot Bailian for all types of traffic due to poor visibility.
Dense fog also disrupted traffic on national highways. Visibility on the Indus Highway from Sehwan to Larkana dropped to as low as 15 metres at several points, while fog severely affected visibility on the national highway from Sakrand to Mirpur Mathelo.
The Motorway Police said they ordered the closures to protect lives and property amid hazardous weather conditions. Officials warned that lane violations during fog could lead to serious accidents and urged drivers to strictly follow lane discipline.
