The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has issued a fog advisory indicating the closure of major motorways for commuters. According to the post on X, the NHMP has closed the M-4 motorway between Shershah and Abdul Hakim. On the other hand, motorway M-5 will also remain off roads for the vehicles from Uch Sharif to Zahir Peer.
The officials warned the motorists not to travel unnecessarily and to follow the safety guidelines strictly.
Advisory by the NHMP
The Motorway Police advised the citizens to travel between 10:00 am and 06:00 pm, as a result, they will remain safe from accidents. It is in the driver’s favour to use fog lights at all times, avoid speeding, and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. Travellers are advised to contact the helpline 130 in case of any queries and information regarding motorway updates.
Traffic has been directed towards the Grand Trunk (GT) road as an alternative for the travellers. The Traffic Police has advised the commuters not to travel in bad weather and to wait until the fog clears. The officials said that once the fog clears, the motorways will be opened once again for traffic.
Weather forecast for today
According to the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), cold and dry weather is expected in most districts of the Punjab province today. On the other hand, the weather is expected to remain very cold and partly cloudy in Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, and surrounding areas. Shallow to moderate fog is expected to develop in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Jhang, Sahiwal, Gujranwala, Narowal, Sialkot, and surrounding areas during early morning hours.
