Ashton Turner, Multan Sultans captain talked about missed opportunities after his team suffered a 20-run defeat to defending champions Lahore Qalandars.
The match was played at Gaddafi Stadium and was a rain affected match.
Multan Sultans, the 2021 champions had entered the contest with match winning streak. They had won both of their two matches. They were handed their first loss in the tournament at the hands of Lahore Qalandars.
Now they have dropped below Qalandars in the standings.
Due to the rain for two hours the match was reduced to 13 overs per side. The toss was won by Turner and he opted to field first. This decision proved costly for the team.
Qalandars top order took the charge and took full advantage and scored a very strong total of 185 at the loss of 5 wickets.
One of the key factors in the defeat of Multan was the lack of discipline with the ball.
Multan Sultans gave extra 23 runs which included 14 wides, two no-balls, three leg byes and four byes.
These mistakes ultimately made the difference in the final result.
After the match Turner acknowledged that in the first half, Multan was not at their absolute best. However, he said it was fortunate that they kept fighting.
He said that the team made controllable mistakes and these mistakes particularly no-balls and wides made the difference. He further said that they needed to tidy that up.
Turner remained calm about the outcome despite the setback. He stressed that the loss will be a learning moment rather than a major concern.
To conclude he said losing a game is not the end of the world. The team will take a hard look at itself and restrict opposition sides in the future.
