Heavy snowfall hits Murree, weather turns severe

Murree has been under a heavy snowfall during the midnight, as the weather forecast department has predicted that the snowfall will continue for the next 24 hours. The heavy snowfall and cold winds have increased the intensity of the cold.

The officials demanded that the tourists follow safety protocols and avoid unnecessary travel during peak hours.

PDMA warning

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) already issued a warning regarding the snowfall and rain in ‘Malika Kohsar’.

According to the post shared at X, the PDMA has issued a weather alert stating that tourists are advised to stay alert and to prepare properly while travelling, as it is necessary due to the weather conditions. The department also said that snowfall and rain is exected in between February 8 and February 10, 2026, in Murree. They have asked the travellers to stay safe in this regard.

Furthermore, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) in their post at X, also predicted rain and snowfall in the dates from February 9 to February 10, 2026. As per the weather update embedded in the post, a new weather system has entered the western and northern parts of Pakistan, bringing a mix of rain and snow to several regions.

According to the PMD, on February 9, residents of north-eastern Balochistan can expect cloudy skies with rain and snow over the mountains. By evening, the system will spread to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, the Pothohar region, and central Punjab. These areas are likely to experience windy conditions, thunderstorms, and light to moderate rain, with isolated hailstorms possible in some locations. On February 10, the rainfall and snowfall will focus on upper regions, including KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and the Pothohar belt, while the rest of the country is expected to remain dry.

From February 11 to 15, the weather is expected to stabilise across most of Pakistan. Dry conditions will prevail in the lower regions, but hilly and mountainous areas will continue to experience cold weather with temperatures remaining very low.

Rain in Islamabad

The capital of Pakistan has also been under the spell of rainfall during the midnight, as the rain has made the weather of Islamabad colder and intense. An X user with a username ‘BaqiR.kaXmi’ also shared snaps of rain in the capital territory, with a caption of ‘Rain in Islamabad, cold wave intensifies.’
