Only families will be allowed to enter Murree’s Mall Road during the Independence Day holiday as Section 144 will remain in place from August 10 to 16.
Police have also banned aerial firing, the display of weapons, wheelies and dangerous stunts. People may face action for fireworks or other illegal activities during this period.
Section 144 in Murree
Authorities have imposed Section 144 in parts of Murree ahead of the celebrations of Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day.
The restrictions will remain in place from August 10 to August 16. They cover Mall Road and GPO Chowk.
The move has been made to maintain law and order situation in the region. Additionally, to prevent any unwanted incidents during the expected increase in tourists.
What restrictions have been placed for Murree tourists?
Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi issued the notification on the recommendation of District Police Officer Murree Raza Tanveer Supra.
Only tourist families will be allowed to enter Mall Road and GPO Chowk. Other groups will not be allowed to enter these areas.
Tourists can visit other recreational places in Murree without these restrictions. These include Patriata, Kashmir Point and the chairlift.
Peddlers and hawkers will also be allowed to accompany tourists to other recreational areas.
Police warn against violations
DPO Raza Tanveer Supra asked tourists and citizens to follow the law and cooperate with the police.
He said hooliganism and bad behaviour will not be allowed. Any activity that disturbs public order will also face action.

People have also been asked to avoid fireworks and other illegal activities. Officials warned that anyone violating Section 144 will face action.
The DPO said people should celebrate Independence Day peacefully and responsibly. He added that protecting lives and property is the police’s top priority.
Police and district authorities have made special security and traffic arrangements for the expected tourist rush during the celebrations.
