Musk on road to becoming a trillionaire

Elon Musk half way to becoming a trillionaire

WEB PAGE: Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, has come halfway to becoming the first trillionaire of the planet, according to Forbes.

The Tesla and SpaceX chief briefly crossed the $500 billion mark on Wednesday as his net worth reached $500.1 billion before dipping to $499.1 billion.

Tesla shares had a bumpy start to 2025, but climbed as investor optimism grew when Musk took a step away from his role in the Trump administration and refocused on his businesses.

Tesla board chair Robyn Denholm said Musk was once again “front and centre” at the company after spending several months at the White House.

Musk’s wealth is heavily linked to Tesla, where he owned over a 12.4% stake as of 15 September.

The company’s shares have gained more than 14% year to date and closed 3.3% higher yesterday – boosting Musk’s net worth by over $6bn (£4.4bn).

Forbes’ “Real-Time Billionaires” tracker placed Oracle’s Larry Ellison second with $350.7 billion, while Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg ranked third with $245.8 billion.

Musk, 54, made his first fortune in the late 1990s after selling a software firm to Compaq for over $300 million.

He later co-founded a company that merged with PayPal before launching SpaceX in 2002 and joining Tesla as chairman in 2004.
