The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has explained the procedure for married citizens in Pakistan to update their marital status in official records, offering both online and in-person application facilities.
According to NADRA, citizens can update their marital information through the Pak ID mobile application or by visiting their nearest NADRA Registration Centre.
Before applying, citizens must obtain a computerised marriage certificate from the relevant Union Council, Cantonment Board or Municipal Committee. The certificate carries a Civil Registration Management System (CRMS) number, which is necessary for processing the request.
What is the civil registration management system (CRMS)?
The Civil Registration Management System is used to maintain official records of major life events, including births, marriages, divorces and deaths.
Authorised local government institutions across Pakistan register these events and share relevant information with NADRA to help maintain accurate citizens’ identity records.
How to update marital status through the Pak ID App
Married citizens can complete the process online through NADRA’s official Pak ID mobile application, which provides facilities for CNIC modifications and updates to non-printable information.
Applicants need to follow these steps:
- Download the official Pak ID mobile application and register an account or sign in.
- Select the relevant CNIC modification or non-printable information update service.
- Provide the required personal and marriage details.
- Upload the supporting documents requested by the application.
- Pay the applicable fee online and submit the application.
- Track the application status through the app.
NADRA may request additional documents or verification depending on the applicant’s individual circumstances. Applicants are advised to follow the instructions displayed on the application.
How to update marital status at a NADRA Office
Citizens who prefer the traditional application process can visit their nearest NADRA Registration Centre.
They should carry their computerised marriage certificate along with the required identity documents and request an update to their marital status.
NADRA officials may ask applicants to complete identity checks or biometric verification before processing the request.
Applicants should also ensure that their marriage details are correctly registered with the relevant local government authority to avoid delays or discrepancies during the verification process.
