NADRA facial verification certificates to be introduced from January 2026
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) announced that, starting January 20, 2026, it will begin issuing facial recognition-based biometric verification certificates. These certificates will be provided at all registration centres.
These directives have been issued by the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control to NADRA.
The Federal government has revised the National Identity Card rules in order to expand the definition of biometrics.
Additionally, facial photographs and Iris scans will now be recognised legally as valid biometric identifiers.
This change will provide a strong foundation for the application of a multi-biometric verification system in Pakistan, NADRA says.
