Kamran Akmal and Basit Ali, former cricketers, responded to the fine on Naseem Shah and both of them have shared strong opinions on the case.
Their remarks were aimed at the magnitude of the punishment and its broader implications.
According to Basit Ali, a ban was not imposed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Naseem Shah.
He also noted that the penalty would just be a monetary one and no other strict disciplinary measure would be taken.
He further indicated that Mohsin Naqvi had considered the issue carefully and was keen on imposing a fine rather than pursuing other severe actions.
Basit said that the reaction by the board was a calculated one.
Basit also noted that the amount of fines was extremely high.
He emphasised that the fine of 20 million rupees is a very big one and players usually do not receive such big fines.
Kamran Akmal, in his turn, explained the gravity of the situation from a professional standpoint.
He emphasised that now Naseem Shah needed to focus on his cricket and stay focused on his performances.
At this stage of Naseem’s career, Kamran stressed the need to remain devoted to the game.
The PCB confirmed that Naseem Shah had been fined for violating the terms of the central contract and his violation of the media policy of the board.
The relevant body restated the principle that professional guidelines and contract regulations will be maintained.
The scandal was related to a published post on the social media page of Naseem Shah concerning the visit of the Punjab Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, to Gaddafi Stadium at the time of the opening of the PSL.
The board insisted that compliance with its policies is crucial and that breach of such policies will always result in disciplinary measures.
