The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved an increase of 35 paisa per unit in electricity prices as part of a quarterly tariff adjustment.

The decision will apply across the country, including the city of Karachi. According to the regulator, the adjustment relates to electricity costs for the period from October to December 2025.

The revised tariff will be implemented for three months, from March to May 2026.

Additional financial burden on consumers

Officials say the increase will place an additional burden of more than 8.67 billion rupees on electricity consumers nationwide.

The regulator has forwarded its decision to the Government of Pakistan for final notification before the revised rates are formally implemented in consumer bills.

Similar increases earlier this year

This is not the first adjustment during the current financial year. Electricity prices were earlier raised by 33 paisa per unit for the quarter covering July to September 2025.

That increase remained in effect from December 2025 until February 2026.

Separately, the regulator had also approved a 33 paisa per unit increase under a fuel price adjustment mechanism earlier in the year.

Who will be affected?

According to the decision, the new tariff will apply to most electricity consumers across Pakistan and will appear in bills during the implementation period.

However, certain categories will remain exempt from the increase. Lifeline electricity consumers and electric vehicle charging stations will not face the additional charges.

Why are these adjustments made?

The regulator says such tariff adjustments are part of routine reviews designed to reflect changes in electricity generation costs and fuel prices.

These revisions are made periodically so that electricity tariffs remain aligned with actual power production expenses.

Officials say the adjustments are communicated in advance to allow consumers to prepare for changes in their electricity bills.
