Punjab

On the other hand, in Punjab, sources indicate that serious consultations are underway at the government level regarding limiting the working hours of markets, bazaars, and shopping malls.

Government officials viewed that it has been proposed that commercial centres across the province remain open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. The main objective of this proposal is to achieve a clear reduction in the use of petrol, diesel, and electricity.

Sources explained that continuing business activities only during daylight hours would reduce electricity consumption. Additionally, decreasing the use of transportation and generators would save petrol and diesel, which is crucial in the current global situation.

During the consultation process, concerns were raised that this change in working hours could affect business activities and the economic cycle. Therefore, it has been suggested that the working hours be set in a way that minimises damage to business operations and the economy.

Sources say that all aspects related to the new schedule of markets are being reviewed. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will make the final decision, after which a formal notification will be issued.
