ISLAMABAD: The ban of new gas connections for domestic consumers have been lifted giving much relief to the public who were made to rely on expensive LPG as an alternate.
According to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Managing Director Aamir Tufail the Prime Minister has lifted the ban on domestic gas connections for public convenience and approved new LNG connections.
The MD said following the lifting of the ban, the company aims to complete a target of 300,000 new connections this year. From next year onward, 600,000 domestic consumers will be provided gas connections annually.
Monitoring units have been set up at SNGPL’s head offices and regional levels to oversee the process.
He said that demand notices from 245,000 applicants had already been received, and letters have been sent to them.
He added that LPG cylinders are 30 percent more expensive than LNG.
He said, “Consumers will no longer need to buy cylinders. Gas will be available at their homes.” He urged people not to fall for middlemen and to apply directly online or at SNGPL offices.
He also stated that those who wish to get a connection can get it quickly by paying an urgent fee.
He noted that this gas is 30 percent costlier than conventional gas. The fixed rate for LNG is Rs3,200 per MMBTU.
