‘Back to stoneage’: PTI’s new rules for KP Female colleges criticised

The Directorate of Higher Education, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), has issued a new notification about organising events in female colleges across the province.

According to the notification dated January 9, 2026, colleges must follow strict Standard Operating Procedures for welcome and farewell parties, sports galas, cultural functions, and other similar events.

The notification was sent to regional directorates in Abbottabad, Bannu, and Swat. Additionally, it was sent to the principals and coordinators of several government colleges.

Under the new rules, colleges must get prior approval from the Director of Higher Education or the Regional Director before holding any event.

Additionally, they must also submit a list of participants and guests.

Activities involving music, dancing, modelling, or similar performances have been banned. This action has been called absurd by many social media users.

In addition to this, mobile phones are not allowed in female colleges during college hours and functions.

All students must wear the college uniform during such events. Colleges must ensure proper security and supervision for students.

The notification also states that event photos and videos should not be shared on social media.

It added that all events must follow cultural and social ‘norms’.

The department warned that strict action will be taken against principals or colleges that fail to follow these instructions.

Netizens react with disappointment

After the notification was shared online, many social media users reacted to it.

Several netizens expressed disappointment with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Some users said the rules show that KP is being pushed back and described the decision as taking the province into a stone age.

A netizen said, “Back to the Stone Age for KP. Thank you, PTI.”

Another expressed disappointment, saying, “Loook at the priorities of the KP government lol.” Another added, “Where’s the surprise. Typical PTI, the political wing of TTP.”

A netizen said, “What is this are we in Afghanistan. Hope this notification will revert back.”

Even the supporters of PTI have expressed great disappointment. When questioned about supporting PTI after the user criticised this notification, the netizens responded, “Maaf kar bhai Meine theka nahi lia hua PTI ka.”
