New speed limits announced for Motorways, National Highways

The speed limit for vehicles on motorways and national highways has been reduced with immediate effect.

According to a spokesperson for the Motorway Police, the decision has been taken to promote fuel conservation and improve traffic discipline across the country. He said that a decision has been made at the federal government’s instructions.

Maximum speed for cars, LTVs

Under the new rules, the maximum speed for cars and Light Transport Vehicles (LTVs) on motorways has been set at 100 km/h, while Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) and Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTVs) are now limited to 90 km/h.

The Motorway Police has urged drivers to follow the new speed limits and cooperate with authorities to ensure safer roads and better fuel management.

Similarly, the maximum speed for cars and LTVs on national highways is 80 km/h, while the speed limit for PSVs and HTVs is 65 km/h.

Central Region Motorway Police spokesperson Imran Ahmed said that the main objective of the new speed limits is to save fuel and reduce traffic accidents.

He added that the Motorway Police has also launched a regular awareness campaign to inform drivers about the new rules.

The spokesperson appealed to drivers to follow the prescribed speed limits, respect traffic regulations, and cooperate with the Motorway Police to ensure safe travel.

The decision is aimed at reducing fuel consumption and ensuring savings on petrol and diesel by lowering vehicle speeds. According to officials, the reduction in the speed limit is expected not only to decrease fuel consumption but also to help reduce road accidents.

Motorway officials stated that drivers will be required to strictly follow the new speed limits, and fines or other legal action may be taken in case of violations.
