South Africa scored 169 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Marco Jansen remained unbeaten on 55. Aiden Markram made 18, Quinton de Kock scored 10, Dewald Brevis added 34, David Miller contributed 6, and Tristan Stubbs made 29 runs.
For New Zealand, Matt Henry, McConchie, and Rachin Ravindra took two wickets each.
In reply, New Zealand chased down the target in the 13th over for the loss of just one wicket, thanks to explosive batting by Finn Allen and Tim Seifert.
