The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has closed several major motorways in Punjab due to dense fog.

The closures were announced by the Central Region spokesperson, Syed Imran Ahmed, who said the measures were taken to prevent accidents and protect travellers.

Affected routes

According to the post on X, the NHMP mentioned the closure of the following motorways: Lahore-Sambrial Motorway (M11) has been closed because of poor visibility.

The Motorway (M2) has also been shut from Thokar Niaz Baig to Kot Momin.

M-3 is closed for traffic between Faizpur and Nankana Sahib.

Safety concerns

Motorway police said the decision was made to ensure the safety of life and property. Reduced visibility increases the risk of collisions, particularly on high-speed roads.

The spokesperson said heavy fog can make driving extremely dangerous, especially during early morning and late night hours when visibility drops sharply.

Drivers have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during foggy conditions. Authorities advised people to plan journeys during daylight hours whenever possible.

According to Syed Imran Ahmed, the safest time to travel in foggy weather is between 10am and 6pm, when visibility is generally better.

Motorway police said they are closely monitoring weather conditions. The affected routes will be reopened in phases as soon as visibility improves and it is safe to resume traffic.

Fog is common in parts of Punjab during the winter months and often leads to temporary road closures to reduce the risk of accidents.
