Famous morning show host Nida Yasir is facing strong criticism on social media after airing a Basant special segment on her programme.
Nida Yasir has hosted the morning show for nearly eighteen years and enjoys a large social media following.
She had included a special segment in her programme about Basant activities in Lahore, featuring choreographer Nighat Ji, actress Sadia Imam, Kiran Khan, singer Junaid, and other guests.
During the programme, Basant was discussed and Nida Yasir also learned dance steps to a Punjabi song.
The show aired on Friday morning, after which many social media users criticised her.
Critics argued that such entertainment and dance scenes were not appropriate on a Friday, especially in the current situation.
Some users said the country is facing various problems and tragedies, and celebrations at such a time show a lack of sensitivity.
Several comments also suggested that the host should focus on more meaningful topics in her show.
Others questioned whether highlighting Basant instead of discussing major national issues was appropriate.
It is worth noting that more than 30 people were killed and over 160 injured in a suicide blast at a mosque in Islamabad during Friday prayers.
The popular show host rose to popularity when she started hosting Good Morning Pakistan in 2011. The former actress has also found herself at the center of many controversies over the years.
She was also subjected to slander after several interviews on her show took a dark turn to boost ratings. As a result, many social media users took to Twitter and Facebook demanding accountability with the hashtag, #BanNidaYasir trending on the social media platforms.
