The Punjab government says that it has distributed more than 2.5 million Nigahban Ramzan Cards during the holy month of Ramzan.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari made the announcement during a joint press conference with Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq.
She said that the government is taking major steps to provide relief to the public during Ramzan.
Nigahban Ramzan Cards update
Information Minister Azma Bukhari said a total of 2,503,897 Nigahban Ramzan Cards have been distributed so far.
She added that more than 2.1 million card holders have already withdrawn their funds. According to her, the program was launched to provide financial support to deserving families during Ramzan.
The information minister said the government also arranged official iftar at 422 locations across the province from the first day of Ramzan until March 1. Thousands of people benefited from these arrangements.
She added that facilities are also being provided to citizens at 1,763 Nigahban Ramzan bazaars. These markets are offering food items and other support to the public.
Punjab Development Program
Information Minister Azma Bukhari also shared details about the Punjab Development Program.
She said the cost of the program has been increased. Development projects in more than 67 cities are being monitored by local governments.
She said 6,100 kilometres of sewerage lines will be laid under the local government system.
Authorities will also construct 189 kilometres of strong water drains. In addition, 181 local government bodies will work on drainage projects in different areas. A total of 83 disposal stations will also be set up.
The minister said nine underground water tanks will be built to improve the water supply in the housing sector. She added that 358 local government institutions will take part in completing these projects.
Information Minister Azma Bukhari said the aim of the Punjab government is to provide maximum relief to people during Ramzan and improve the lives of those living in smaller cities.
