MELBOURNE: Novak Djokovic, the winner of 7 Wimbledon titles, has withdrawn from his planned Australian Open warm-up tournament, as he is not physically ready to compete.
The Serbian legend was set to play at next week’s Adelaide International. Currently, Djokovic is preparing to make a standalone record of 25th Grand Slam singles title.
Djokovic has appeared on appeared 24 times in Australian Open and won it 10 times. However, he lost in the semi-finals on his past two appearances.
Djokovic, currently 38 is scaling down his playing time in recent years to be fresh when it’s participate in the Grand Slams.
Djokovic on his Instagram shared with his fans that he was really excited about returning and it would have felt like he was playing at his home. However, currently he wants to completely focus on Australian Open. He further added he will be arriving in Melbourne soon.
Djokovic is currently the number 4 in the world. He has not been able to win a slam since the 2023 US Open. Regardless, he is still one of the most consistent players at the Slams last year.
He reached the semi-final of all last four slams he played, he lost to Jannik Sinner at the French Open and Wimbledon and lost from Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open.
He had to retire due to injury from his last-four meeting in Melbourne against Alexander Zverev last January.
His total ATP Tour title tall has also gone to 101 after he won two last year.
The Australian Open will start from Sunday, 18th January to Sunday, 1 February.
Novak Djokovic has won all four grand slam titles of tennis which include French Open, Australian Open, US open and the Wimbledon. He has surpassed even the legendary Roger Federer in in some areas.
