November 26 protest case: Court orders immediate arrest of Aleema Khan

Aleema Khan, Imran Khan,

RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Terrorism Court Rawalpindi has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf founder Imran Khan, in the November 26 D-Chowk protest case.

The case was heard by Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Amjad Ali Shah.

Aleema Khan was to be indicted in the Sadiqabad police station protest case in the hearing today, but she could not appear in court.

The court also rejected her request for exemption from appearance.

The court, expressing its displeasure over her non-appearance, issued a non-bailable warrant and ordered Aleema Khan’s immediate arrest. The Court also ordered that she be produced before the court tomorrow (October 15).

This case relates to the protest held in D-Chowk Islamabad in November 2022, when the PTI leadership called for nationwide protests against the assassination attempt on Chairman Imran Khan.

During this, clashes took place between workers and police within the limits of Sadiqabad police station in Rawalpindi.

The police had registered cases against PTI leaders on charges of vandalism, damage to government property and blocking roads.

Aleema Khan was on bail in these cases, but despite being summoned several times by the court, she did not appear, on which non-bailable arrest warrants have now been issued for her.

Aleema was to be indicted in the November 26 protest case registered at Sadiqabad Police Station during October 8 hearing, but she did not appear before the court and had filed an exemption plea.

The Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) dismissed the exemption plea filed by her and had  issued a bailable arrest warrant for Aleema Khanum

In October last year, Aleema Khan, her sister Uzma, and several PTI supporters were detained at Islamabad’s D-Chowk for allegedly clashing with police and violating Section 144, a law that prohibits gatherings of four or more people to maintain public order. They were later released from Jhelum District Jail after securing bail from a local court.
