Due to heavy rainfall in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the water level in Nullah Lai has increased significantly, and urban flooding is expected, especially in the low-lying areas of Rawalpindi.
The water continued to rise in Nullah Lai with rain falling between 1 am and morning.
According to officials, the water level at Kattarian was around 22 feet, and at Gawalmandi, it was 16 feet.
The water was rapidly rising, prompting the authorities to sound warning sirens and evacuate the population in vulnerable areas.
The heavy rainfall caused flooding in low-lying neighbourhoods such as Khayaban-e-Sir Syed, Sadiqabad and Dhoke Elahi Bakhsh. The water entered the homes of people in these locations.

The police advised the public to avoid Nullah Lai and nearby drains and other susceptible spots.
The Rawalpindi district administration has also approached the Pakistan Army for help to contain the emergency.
The situation is under tight observation, especially at Kattarian and Gawalmandi where the rising water level poses the threat of flooding, officials said.
A total of 75.44 millimetres of rainfall was recorded in Rawalpindi, whereas Islamabad and Rawalpindi recorded an average of about 74mm.
The maximum rainfall was observed at Golra with 113mm, Sidpur with 71mm, PMD with 57mm, Shamsabad with 45mm and New Kattarian with 59mm.
However, the persistent rain has put a strain on Nullah Lai, elevating the likelihood of more flooding.
The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast of additional rainfall in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and other parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
