Office goers are facing severe disruption on Park Road in Islamabad as heavy rain caused a massive traffic jam, with long queues of vehicles stranded on the section.
The situation worsened due to ongoing construction work at the Margalla Enclave underpass, which has already been causing bottlenecks along the busy route.
ITP earlier stated that traffic flow on Park Road affected, with diversions in place to manage the situation. Vehicles travelling from Rawal Dam Chowk toward Taramari were redirected via NIH Road, passing through Mohra Noor before rejoining Park Road.
Meanwhile, commuters moving from Taramari toward Rawal Dam Chowk were diverted through Chai Khana and the CDA Nursery, using temporary roads set up alongside the iron grill to merge back onto the main road.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the affected area and use alternative routes such as Lehtrar Road, Khanna Pul, and the Islamabad Expressway to reduce delays. Officials have warned that congestion on Park Road is likely to persist throughout the construction period, urging citizens to plan and allow an additional 20 to 30 minutes for their daily commute.
Twin cities’ weather turns pleasant after early morning rain
Rain has hit Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Monday (today), turning the weather chilly in both cities.
The rain started in the early morning. Clouds have been present over the Twin Cities since last night, and intermittent rainfall has further helped in easing the weather conditions.
PDMA damage report
On the other hand, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) released an initial report on the damage caused by recent rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
At least nine people died and 47 others have been injured in rain-related incidents across KP.
The report covers the period since March 25, when intermittent rainfall began affecting different parts of the province.
Officials said the dead included eight children and one woman. Among the injured were 26 men and 21 children.
Houses damaged in affected districts
Authorities said several incidents of roof and wall collapses were reported due to the rain. So far, at least six houses have been partially damaged.
The worst-affected areas include Bannu and North Waziristan, where rescue efforts are ongoing.
