OGRA reacts to reports of LPG price hike

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has rejected claims that prices of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) have risen clearing it that no fresh price notification has been issued.

In an official statement OGRA said LPG prices are fixed on the first day of each month on a prescribed mechanism and the presently notified prices would continue in force in the whole country.

The regulator has been making it clear that rumours about an increase in the prices are baseless and misleading.

OGRA compelled the LPG distributors and retailers to strictly sell the commodity at the officially noticed rates. Consumers also have been advised to report the cases of overcharging to the respective District Administrations for action.

The clarification comes amid public concern over fluctuating fuel prices. While international crude oil prices recorded a decline again today no reduction has been announced in petroleum product prices in Pakistan

Earlier the government had increased the prices of fuel with an accumulative amount of Rs55, taking into account the situation in a region as a factor.

Petrol crisis averted after fresh imports arrive in Pakistan

In a separate development, concerns about a potential shortage of petrol due to tensions between the United States and Iran in the Middle East have receded with the arrival of fuel shipments at Port Qasim.

According to officials, several petrol-filled ships have started docking at Port Qasim to ensure continuous supply of petroleum products to different parts of the country.

A gas oil carrier MT Torum Damini has already chained in FOTCO terminal, whereas MT Nave Atropos arrived at FOTCO terminal on March 9 carrying 50,000 metric tons of petrol. Another ship, MT Spross 2, is to dock at 8:30 pm on March 10th with 55,000 metric tonnes of petrol.

Additionally, MT Sea Clipper is expected to approach the port on March 11 at noon with about 34,000 metric tons of petrol.

A spokesperson for Port Qasim confirmed that a fuel vessel arriving from Fujairah has already reached the port and that more ships carrying petroleum products are expected in the coming days to maintain an uninterrupted supply of fuel.
